Latest news - 30th August

Becky had a fantastic weekend in Gateshead returning home with 3 Gold medals. Great Britain's A team finished in 1st place ahead of Great Britain's B team and Switzerland. Becky also returned to all 4 pieces of apparatus taking the all around gold ahead of British senior champion Hannah Whelan and team mate Jennifer Pinches. In Sunday's individual apparatus finals Becky then went on to take her final gold in the Bars final, a great finish to a great weekend.

Latest news - 23rd August

Becky will be competing this weekend In Gateshead as part of the GB team selection for the world championships / commonwealth games later this year in October. Great Britain will be competing against switzerland starting with the the team competition on saturday and moving to individual apparatus finals on the sunday.

Latest news - 16th August

Becky had a great competition in ipswich last weekend as part of the GB team against Romania. The team finished in 2nd place with becky leading as top scorer for the team on vault and bars and hannah whelan being the top scorer on beam and floor.

In the finals on sunday Becky only competed on bars and competed a clean routine to finish in 1st place just ahead of team mate Danusia francis.

Becky will be returning to competition this weekend in ipswich. The competition is an international event against romania and is part of Becky's preparation ahead of the world championships / commonwealth games which will be held in october.

Latest news - 5th July

Unfortunately Becky was unable to compete at the 2010 British championships which took place in guildford last weekend due to an ankle injury she picked up during training. Becky would like to send her congratulations to the new British senior champion Hannah Whelan and is hoping to be back on track ready to compete again in August.  xxx

Latest news - 6th June
 
Becky has just returned home from Barcelona after competing in the JOAQUIM BLUME international competition. Becky competed well on Vault and bars and although beam and floor were a little shaky becky finished in 3rd place. Sam hunter from Great Britain also competed and finished in 1st place.

Latest news - 24th May

Becky competed at the British team championships yesterday and despite NOTTS having a few mistakes they still managed to finish in 2nd place behind the champions Heathrow. Becky competed all around for the first time this year and finished in 2nd place with 2 falls behind heathrow's Nicole Hibbert. Becky then tied with Marissa King for the Ursel Free trophy which was for the the highest score of the day on any piece of apparatus. Becky's was for bars scoring a joint 14.65 with Marissa on the vault.

Latest news -  4th May   EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS !!

29TH April - Qualifications day 1

Becky had a pretty good competition throughout the qualifications on thursday, competing a set of steady routines and helping the team to a record breaking 3rd place which secured a place in the team final. Becky also made the individual Bars final along with team mate Beth Tweddle.

1st May - Team finals, day 2  

Becky helped team GB to a historic 2nd place in the European championship team finals today. The team put on an outstanding performance topping there qualifying result of 3rd place and beating the reigning european team champions Romania !!! The team completed 3 out of 3 successful routines on every single piece of apparatus to become the ....... 2010 EUROPEAN TEAM SILVER MEDALLISTS !!!!!!!!! .......... HISTORY FOR GREAT BRITAIN !!!!

2nd May - Bar final, Day 3

Today was Becky's final day at the european championships in Birmingham. Becky completed her bar routine close to her best to finish in 5th place and only 0.150 from 3rd place.

Latest news - 18th April

Becky competed in the Paris world cup last weekend with team mates Beth Tweddle and Niamh Rippin. Becky only competed on bars and beam and despite having a fall on bars becky still scored 13.30 and was 2nd reserve for the final. On beam Becky competed a solid routine to score 13.875 and finished in 9th place, just missing out on the final.

Becky's next competition will hopefully be the European championships in 2 weeks time but until then its back to national squad training for Becky to work with the team and correct any mistakes ready for the championships.

Latest news - 27th March

Becky competed in France today with some of the other GB girls as part of the preparation for the european championships. GB didn't put out a full team because the other half of the team were competing in Italy at the same time but despite this Becky competed well on the 3 pieces she did which were vault, bars and beam scoring 14.20, 14.50, 13.65 respectively.  

Becky will be competing again in two weeks time at the Paris grand prix where she will be hoping to improved on her scores from this weekend.

Latest news - 20th march

Becky competed in her first international competition of the year on saturday and had a pretty successful day. This was the real start of a new olympic cycle and with some of the old seniors retiring last year and the new juniors moving up to seniors this year it was the first time that the new team competed together. The international was a friendly competition against Germany and Romania and team GB finished in 2nd place only 0.25 behind romania which were the 2008 olympic bronze medallists. Becky only competed on 3 pieces which were Vault, Bars and beam and didn't compete floor because she is resting an old foot injury.

Becky's next competition will be another international competition which is next weekend against France.

Latest news - 6th March

Becky competed at the English championships yesterday which was her first competition of the season. Becky only competed on bars and beam because of some ongoing feet injuries but did not have the best of days. Becky had one fall on beam and 2 falls on bars scoring 12.55 and 11.70. Becky's next competition will be an Great Britain international which is in 2 weeks time.

Latest news - 10th November

Becky has been nominated for this years BBC young sports personality award. She will join 9 other young sport stars in the list of nominees to win a title previously won by the likes of Wayne Rooney and diver Tom Daley.

The judging panel will reconvene on Monday 23 November 2009 to select the top three and the winner from the top 10 list. The winner will be announced live on the Sports Personality of the Year show and the BBC website on Sunday 13 December 2009.

Latest news - 19th october

Becky didn't have such a good day in the qualifications round at the world championships after having 2 falls on her bars and beam dismounts, despite these mistake she still qualified for the women's all around competition which was held on friday the 16th october and was first reserve for the vault final.

In the women's AA final Becky started well on floor to score 13.525 and then went on to score 14.50 on vault which was better then in the qualifications round. Following this becky then carried a mistake on bars and then had another 2 falls on her final piece which was beam and this left Becky in 16th place overall.

Latest news - 14th October 2009

Today is Becky's first day of competition at the World championships in London's 02 arena. Becky will be competing in the final round of the women's qualifications competition which will be between 8.30 and 10.30pm tonight. Latest news - 5th October 2009

Becky has been selected to compete for Great Britain at the world championships Next week and will leave for london this thursday in preparation for the competition. The championships will be held at the 02 Arena in LONDON and the first day of competition will be wednesday the 14th October. A TV advertisement featuring Becky will also be shown on the BBC from the 9th of october.

Becky recently took part in the launch of the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) olympic inspired images as part of a visit to the region. The images have been showcased at East Midlands airport and are now up for public viewing. Latest news - July 5th

Becky had another great day at today's British championship finals claiming three more gold medals and a silver. Despite having a fall on vault Becky still claimed the silver medal and then went on to take the Bars, Beam and floor titles. Becky's highlight for today was again the beam, with an even better routine than yesterday and hitting a new PB of 14.90.

Latest news - July 4th - BECKY RETAINS BRITISH SENIOR TITLE!!

Becky was crowed the 2009 Senior British AA champion tonight at the guildford spectrum for the second year running. Becky competed well on all four pieces of apparatus despite a mistake on bars and her highlight piece beam and scoring 14.40 which was a new PB for becky in this code.
Becky also qualified for all four apparatus finals which will take place tomorrow.

Latest news - 25th may 09

Becky helped the Notts team to a 3rd place finish at last weekends British team championships with the City of Liverpool and Heathrow finishing in 1st and 2nd place. Becky competed on bars and beam only due to an ongoing foot injury and is hoping to be back on full form in time for the British championships in July.

Latest news - 18th May 09

Becky competed in the Glasgow grand prix last weekend along with team mates, hannah whelan and beth tweddle. In the qualifications round on friday becky made the beam final and despite having a fall on bars becky still made the final. There were no vault qualifications because only 7 gymnasts were trying for the final so all the gymnasts went straight to the finals on saturday. In saturdays finals becky started the competition with bars and performed a clean routine with no major mistakes to earn the silver medal behind team mate beth tweddle. Becky then moved to vault and after having some trouble with her ankles she reduced the difficulty on her first vault and then had a fall on the second vault to finish in 6th place.

The final piece for becky was beam and with a few wobbles and a missed leap series becky scored a 13.30 to finish in 5th place.

Latest news -  7th April 09 

Becky flew out to Milan last week to compete in the 3rd individual European championships. In the qualifications round on thursday Becky carried one mistake on beam but placed 5th in the AA competition and 7th on vault and bars which was enough to carry her through to the finals. The AA final was then on saturday afternoon and Becky started on vault, which gave her a good score of 14.350, the next piece was bars and Becky did one of her best routines to score a 15.00 which then put her into 3rd position. Then after 2 falls on beam becky dropped down a few places and finished with a good floor routine to score 14.05 which was her pb on the new code and finished in 11th place.

Then onto sunday and it was Becky's last day competing at the european championships. Becky started on vault and was 5th up which meant there was quite a long wait but Becky stuck both her vaults to finish in 6th place. Then Becky moved to bars and was 3rd up which was a good position to start and after a clean routine Becky finished in 6th position again and that wrapped up her European championships.

Latest news - 16th March 09

Becky was chosen to compete in the Jesolo competition last saturday in Venice. Becky travelled to venice on thursday with the great britain team ready to compete in saturdays competition. unfortunately becky took a short landing in training on friday afternoon which aggravated an old foot injury and was there for withdrawn from floor and vault to help the recovery. In the end she just competed on beam and bars and didn't have the best of days having 2 falls on beam and 1 fall on bars. Becky is now preparing for the European championships which will be held in Milan in 3 weeks time and is now going to be training at Lilishall with the rest of the squad until the event.

Becky has now completed her first competition of 2009 which was one of America's top international meets the Tyson American Cup held at the Sears Centre, Chicago last saturday. Becky competed on all 4 events and had no major errors which carried her all the way to a 4th place finish, only 0.4 behind Germany's kim Bui.

Becky has been chosen to represent Great Britain in this years 2009 American cup championships held in Chicago. This will be the first time Becky has competed in america and she will be flying out on the 16th of february for a weeks training before the event, also Becky attended the Nottinghamshire sports awards last night and was crowned the junior sports person of the year for 2008.

On thursday night Becky attended the BBC East midlands sports awards and was crowned Junior sportsperson of the year for 2008. Becky's award was supported by sport England who chose her as the winner for the east midlands region, click here to see pictures from the event.

Stella McCartney launches new adidas range

Becky was chosen to be part of Stella McCartney's launch of her new adidas range for London fashion week. Becky travelled down to London on monday morning ready for fittings and rehearsals later in the afternoon and then took part in the show to promote stella's new range on tuesday morning. Becky joined models, trampolineists, fellow team mates and some double dutch athletes who all took part in the show. Becky will be adding some personal pictures from the event soon and will keep you posted if there is anymore news.

Becky competed in the olympic qualifications yesterday and placed 19th AA which qualified her through to the Women's All Around final which will take place on friday. The team also finished in 9th place which is a new record for Britain gymnastics. Well done bex and good luck for fridays AA. xxx

Latest news - 29th june
British finals and OLYMPIC TEAM announcement.

Becky did not compete in the floor and vault finals today as she was resting her feet but she did compete on bars and beam.
Becky did a clean routine on bars to take the gold over last years champion Beth tweddle and placed 4th on beam with a fall to score 14.5. At the end of the competition was the olympic team announcement meaning Becky is now officially part of the 2008 gymnastics olympic team along with teammates laura jones, Marissa king, Beth tweddle, Hannah whelan and Becky wing who will compete in Beijing in just over 40 days.

British championships

Becky competed for the first time as a senior this weekend at the British championships in Guilford. Becky was crowned the 2008 British senior champion and also was the highest scorer on beam and vault of the day. Becky also qualified for all 4 apparatus finals which will take place tomorrow.

GB vs. Romania

Becky had a fantastic competition in ipswich this weekend in her match against one of the best teams in the world Romania.
Becky scored a personal best of 60.750 in the AA competition only 0.250 behind Steliana Nistor 2007 world medallist. Becky also excelled in the apparatus finals as she took home the gold on vault and achieved another personal best of 16.10 to take 2nd place on bars.

Cottbus world cup

Becky competed in germany this weekend at her first grand prix. She competed again some world class gymnasts to qualify in 7th place on bars and proved she was worthy of a medal as she took the silver in event finals.

Latest news - European championships

Becky took part in her first senior european championships in clermond-ferrand France this week. She helped the team to 5th place in qualification but she only competed vault and bars due to illness and she still managed to qualify for those to event finals. In the team final becky also competed on beam and with a shaky start the team finished in 6th place.
In event finals becky did not have such a good day as she finished 8th (last) on both bars and vault but for her first senior euros its not a bad start.

Great Britain vs. France

Becky competed in blackpool this weekend for a friendly competition against france as part of the preparation for the european championships.
The team placed 2nd to france with an overall score of 227.50 and becky also placed 2nd in the AA competition with 58.10
becky also performed a fantastic beam routine to score 15.40, the highest score on beam ever in great britain.
In apparatus finals becky took the gold on bars 15.00 and a bronze on vault 13.725.

Great Britain vs. Czech republic.

Becky competed for Great Britain in her first competition of 2008 this week in a match against the czech republic.
becky helped the team to 1st place and was the highest scoring brit placing second with a score of 57.80.
In apparatus finals becky took the gold on vault 14.350 and came 2nd on bars 14.80

At last nights BBC East Midland Sports Personality Of The Year Awards,held at the Derby Assembly Rooms,
Becky won the title of JUNIOR SPORTSWOMAN 2006.
She enjoyed a wonderful evening and was exremly honoured to receive the beautiful award which recognised all her acheivements to date.
She would like to thank her coach Claire Starkey for all her support and everyone at Notts Gym Club.

CONGRATULATIONS BECKY !!!!!!! BRITISH JUNIOR CHAMPION 2006.

On saturday 8th July Becky competed her first Junior Championship,winning the title with an AA score of 56.600 .
This is Beckys 3rd sucessive British title.
Also on apparatus finals day she took Gold on Floor and Vault plus a Bronze on Bars .
A fantastic result well done Beck !!!!!!!!!

Latest news - 2nd May 2006

JUNIOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Becky and her Team arrived home from Volos last night after coming 5th in the Team competition.
Becky managed to come 8th AA after some tough competition from Russia and Romania. She also made the floor final and came in 6th place.
She will now be preparing for the British Championships in July where she will compete as a first year junior. Congrats to Becky and all the Team .

BRITISH TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

Becky had a fantastic weekend . Notts took the Bronze medal in the Team Champs with Heathrow taking Gold and Liverpool Silver.
Individually Becky was in joint 1ST AA place with Heathrows Amy Nunes with a score of 55.150.
This Comp was a final trial for the European Championships later this month in Volvos Greece.The Junior Team are Becky,Hannah Clowes,Rebecca wing,Jodie Standish,and Beckys teamate Laura Jones [reserve Zoe Allan]

Becky is to appear on a new BBC show called LEVEL UP with sam and mark from the x factor. It will be screened on 10th April on CBBC and BBC2 during the morning look out for Becky if you are not training or ask someone to record it.

Becky returns home after a very sucessful commonwealth games with two medals

A Silver Team Medal and a Bronze Medal acheived through an excellant performance
on Beam on apparatus final day with Australias Monette Russo coming 4th.
A brilliant 1st major international result. Becky also acheived 6th AA on Team Final Day 1, 8th AA on ind AA day 2 and placed 5th in the Bars Final CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st February 2006

BECKY SELECTED TO REPRESENT ENGLAND ! !

It has been announced today, that following a successful trial on sunday 29th january, Becky is to be a member of The English Commonwealth Team, competing in the Commonweath Games march 15th - 26th in Melbourne Australia. [ wow ]
The five strong team are as follows, Imogen Cairns, Shavahn Church, Hannah Clowes, Beth Tweddle and Becky Downie. CONGRATULATIONS ! ! ! ! !

Becky starts 2006 fully fit and raring to go in her 1st year as a junior gymnast.
She will be attending the 3rd commonwealth trial at the end of january, hoping to prove herself worthy of a place in Great Britains squad.
