What a start to 2011
So far this year my whole schedule has been flipped upside down !! I'm sure you've all heard that i picked up an injury this year and unfortunately i did it the day after my birthday. I injured my Achilles Tendon whilst training and am going to be out of competitive action for a while because of it. It was really unexpected because i felt in good shape and i had some great new skills that were moving on really nicely but you have to make the best of all situations and that's exactly what i'm doing.
It's been just over two months now since my injury and i can't believe how quickly time has flown by. I spent 2 weeks in a cast and 4 weeks in a hinged boot and it was the most frustrating 6 weeks of my life !!! The most annoying part had to be the fact that i couldn't carry things whilst walking with crutches. So my family had to help me out BIG time and i think they were more relieved then me once i finally said goodbye to my boot. As soon as my boot came off i spent a week at Bisham Abbey for intensive rehabilitation. I had never been to Bisham before so it was a new experience for me and i loved it. A day at Bisham for me included 2 Physio sessions, 2 Strength & Conditioning sessions and a lot of getting used to walking again. My end of week target was to leave Bisham Abbey walking with no crutches and that's exactly what i did. I have to say it was EXTREMELY slow walking but i didn't care, it was huge progress for me in just one week.
I'm now allowed back on bars and OMG my hands are permanently sore. No bars for 8 weeks
and
my hands and wrists are certainly feeling the pain but it feels AMAZING
to be swinging round bars again. My main focus now is to get my ankle
really strong again and to slowly start recovering all of my skills. I
can't really say when i will be back competing, it just depends on how
well my injury heels but so far i'm making progress every day and i have
no doubt that i'll be back.
I recently had a photo shoot with Milano Pro-Sport to shoot my new collection which should launch this summer. I'm super excited for you all to see my new designs. I also attended my first National Camp of the year and it was so good to see everyone. I hadn't seen all of the National Team since October 2010 which felt like a lifetime and i really missed all the girls. Everyone has been so supportive of my injury and i'm working with a great medical team to make sure i'm back as soon as possible !!!
Over the next few months I have a lot to look forward to which is really exciting. Firstly i'm going to visit my old Notts team mate Louise Mercer at the University of Denver. Shortly after that i will be travelling to Mexico with the National Squad for a training camp and then i have my school exams which aren't so fun.
I want to thank everyone for all your support, it has definitely helped my through my injury so far. Finally i want to say GOOD LUCK to the British Mens and Womens teams who will be competing at the European Championships this coming April, i know they'll do great.
