6 long months but i'm on my way back !!!
Hi everyone
I didn't realise how long it's been since i last wrote to you all so i thought i'd keep you all updated. Since my last post i've made huge amounts of progress which looking back on is really great to see. I had an amazing time in Mexico with the team, it was so good to be part of the team again and be able to spend time with the girls. The aim of the Mexico camp was to recover and make progress for those who were carrying injuries and to rest and recover for all the girls who had just competed at the European championships. It was a great camp which included lots of fitness work, pool sessions, rehab and besides all the hard work we did get to relax and spend a little time on the beach. The weather was better then we expected and was around 28-32 degrees daily, which was great for the time we got to spend out the gym but as you can imagine it wasn't the most fun to train in. Overall i think the camp was a great experience for everyone and we all returned home having made lots of progress and feeling well rested and recovered.
After the Mexico camp, I felt very happy with the progress i had made and just couldn't wait to move on even more. The next big goal for my was to start jogging again and once i achieved that i really felt that i had got over one of the biggest challenges in my recovery process. As the weeks went on my confidence continued to grow and my ankle was getting stronger everyday. Week by week i could see small amounts off progress and everything was starting to come back. By the end of May I had recovered all of my bars skills besides the dismount and the British championships wasn't far away. At the beginning of the year i couldn't of even considered competing at the British championships because i had no idea how long it would take to recover any pieces after my injury and the thought that i might get the chance to compete definitely gave my something to aim for and really helped to keep me motivated. When the time came to make the decision to compete or not compete, as much as i wanted to compete i just wasn't quite ready. It was very frustrating because if i had just a few more weeks i could have competed but to know how far i had come from the beginning of the year and to almost achieve what i thought would be an impossibility was the best feeling and has given me even more drive to return as soon as possible.
I was really disappointed to have to miss the British championships for the second year running as it's one of my favourite competitions of the year but i'm hoping next year will be my time, as they say third time lucky !! Right now my focus is to start returning to a normal training schedule which includes all 4 pieces of apparatus. I have successfully recovered all of my bars skills now including my dismount and am working on the other 3 however I know these will take a little longer. In terms of competing again, i hope to be competing again soon on 1 or 2 pieces of apparatus and the main goal in mind for me is the world championships in Tokyo. I know i have a lot of work to do before then and as far away as October seems, i know it will fly by.
It's been a long and hard 6 months of injury but i have honestly loved every minute of it. There have been plenty of ups and downs but i feel like from this injury i have learnt a lot and i feel stronger because of it. I have experienced a very different training schedule for the first half of this year but i'm now looking forward to returning to a normal ...... well as normal as my schedule gets for the end of this year. I'm really looking forward to the challenges ahead of me and can't contain my excitement to know that i'm so close to being back.
xoxo Becky
